Negha Shahin, born in Tamil Nadu, is a transgender actor and transgender rights activist. When her family learned about her gender identity, they forced her to leave the house. During that time, she also experienced a lot of physical violence and ran away to Chennai with her 12th certificate. After moving to Chennai, she started working with NGOs for transgender rights awareness. Shahin is a trained mental health counsellor at the NGO named Thozhi. She started her modelling and anchoring career while working at the NGO. She has also worked as a video jockey with the Vikatan Group of Publications. Later in 2022, she was the lead cast in the Malayalam movie Antharam, which made her the first trans woman to win the debut actor at the 52nd Kerala State Film Awards in 2022.
She has also appeared in short films such as Piravi, Manam and Thirugangai. In an interview, she says people applaud her acting skills and no-makeup look. Despite facing all the harsh situations that life threw at her, she never gave up and kept her confidence. She always thrived to prove to society that she was not alone, which she did by progressing in her chosen field. She encouraged several transgender women to work towards their dreams and strive to achieve them regardless of what people think of them.
