Kunigal Nagabhushan was born on 6th December 1945 in Tumkur, Karnataka. He was an actor, writer, director and producer and he contributed his extremely talented creativity to more than 250 films throughout his career, where he worked as an actor, director, producer, written dialogues and script, worked as an assistant director and he was always present on the set as a productive member of the team till his last official work.
Kunigal had a clear vision of becoming an artist since his childhood and he was fascinated with film making and he was a huge fan of the early work of the silent cinema of India and all the other wonderful movies from the Hollywood. After completing his school level studies, Kunigal quickly decided to join film school, and at film school, he was one of the most excellent students. He graduated with a degree in cinematography and soon joined the Kannada film industry. He started out as an assistant director and he used to work under the mentorship of Dr. Rajkumar.
In 1964 he made his official debut as an assistant director on the movie Naandi. Soon, as he progressed through his career, he made one movie after another. He made his acting debut on the 1968 hit ‘Hoovu Mullu’. Even though he had already worked as an actor, he would still go on to work as an assistant director on movies like Dhoomaketu, Chikkamma (where he also made his debut as a writer), Sedina Kidi and many more classics. Kunigal made his directorial debut in 1975 with Ashirvad and he would go on to direct many classic movies of the Kannada film industry. His talents led him to won numerous awards including Karnataka state awards. Kunigal is truly regarded as a legend in the Indian cinema history, and his legacy will live on for a long time, he passed away on 23rd June 2013, right after making his final appearance in the 2012 blockbuster Gokula Krishna.
