A theater actress, a Kannada film actress, and a social activist during the Emergency in India, Snehalata Reddy was born in 1932. She co-founded Madras Players in 1960, the oldest theater company in India today. She got married to Pattabhi Ram Reddy, a skilled director. She is noted for her role in a Kannada film called Samskara.

She won the National Award in 1970 for the same. Snehalata and her husband were together in the anti-emergency movement. She had close connections with George Fernandes Born on the 3 rd of June 1930, George Fernandes wa >> Read More... and was behind bars for merely knowing him. Snehalata Reddy was also arrested in connection with the Baroda Dynamite Case. However, in the final charge sheet Snehalata Reddy's name wasn't there.

Even though she wasn't mentioned in the charge sheet, she was imprisoned and made to live in inhumane conditions in a prison in Bangalore.

She was released on January 15th for parole. However, she died five days later on 20th January 1977 due to chronic asthma and lung infection. She is one of the first martyrs of the Emergency.
