Varun Badola was born on 7 January 1974 in
New Delhi. Though his home town is Uttarakhand, he spent his childhood in Ahemdabad. His father Vishwas Mohan Badola is a well known television artist and his sister Alka has acted in TV serials titled Kutumb and
Qubool Hai. His second sister Kalindi is a radio jockey. Varun Badola always wanted to be an actor. He studied at Sardar Patel Vidhyalaya in Delhi. He is also a good singer and dancer and has been part of many reality shows. He has also worked as a costume arranger and assistant director in his early days with Tigmanshu Dhuliya.
