Sankalp Meshram is an Indian filmmaker, producer, editor, and writer who has bagged five National Awards for editing and direction. Born in 1966 in Nagpur, Sankalp Meshram grew up in different places like Gwalior, Goa, Calcutta, Pune, and Mumbai. He did part of his schooling at The Frank Anthony Public School at Calcutta and remaining at Government Higher Secondary School at Panaji. Sankalp Meshram received his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He further did his post-graduation in Law from Government Law College, Mumbai. In 1994, he pursued a specialization course in film editing from Film and Television Institute, Pune.
Sankalp Meshram began his journey in the film world as an editor. He has worked as an editor for several feature films, and some of them are Mirch, Pappu Can’t Dance Salla, UttPataang, Baga Beach, Jaanisaar, T for Taj Mahal, Katha Don Ganpatraonchi, and more. Besides feature films, he also does documentary films like Lokpriya, Pravahi, Riding Solo to the Top of the World, Lyari Notes, etc. in 200, Sankalp Meshram received his first National Award Best Non-Feature Film Editing for the documentary ‘Lokpriya’ at the 48th National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... . Sankalp Meshram made his debut as a director in 2004 with the movie ‘Chutkan Ki Mahabharat.’ The storyline of the picture deals with the life of Chutkan, who changes reality through his dreams. The feature film won the Best children’s film at the 52nd National Film Awards, bagging him his second National award. After which, he directed, produced many films. Around 2011, Sankalp Meshram started working on the biopic of the famous Bharatanatyam dancer Alarmel Valli in ‘Lasya Kavya: The World of Alarmel Valli.’ Apart from directing, he has also produced the film.
For his outstanding work, Sankalp Meshram received two awards as a director and producer in the category Best Arts/ Cultural Film at the 59th Film Awards. His later work, named ‘Into the Unknown,’ which talks about the architecture of Charles Correa, is also a successful movie that got screened at several film festivals. Sankalp Meshram bagged his fifth National Award for directing the documentary called ‘Girija: a lifetime in Music,’ which got chosen as the Best Arts/ Cultural Film at the 65th National film awards.
