He is the current UFC Lightweight Champion. McGregor is the son of Tony and Margaret McGregor. He has two sisters Erin McGregor and Aoife McGregor. Since 2008, he has been in a relationship with Dee Devlin who is expecting their first child in May 2017. As a child, McGregor attended Gaelscoil and Gealcholáiste in Coláiste de híde in Tallaght. There he played football for Lourdes Celtic Football Club. At the age of 12, he took up kickboxing the Crumlin Boxing under Olympian Phil Sutcliffe and became a national champion at youth level. In 2006, McGregor’s family moved to West Dublin where McGregor attended Gealcholáiste at Coláiste Cois Life.

He undertook a plumbing apprenticeship for a while before meeting would-be UFC fighter Tom Egan with whom he trained in Mixed Martial Arts. When McGregor was 18, he fought his first mixed martial arts fight against Kieran Campbell as an amateur for the Irish Ring of Truth on 17th February 2007. He won the bout in the first round by technical knockout after which he signed up for professional MMA with the Irish Cage of Truth. Motive Television and SevereMMA.com documented his fight on 17th August 2013 against Max Holloway as The Notorious which also became his moniker. Though McGregor won the fight he had to take a break due to a ligament tear during the match. McGregor returned to UFC on 19th July 2014 with a win against Diego Brandão to earn his first Performance of the Night. He became the undisputed UFC Featherweight Champion with the fastest finish in any title bout against José Aldo. McGregor moved on to the Lightweight division where he suffered his first UFC loss and third MMA loss in a welterweight bout against Nate Diaz on 3rd March 2016 but won the rematch in August.

Then on 27th September won against Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC Lightweight Champion thus becoming UFC’s first champion in two divisions concurrently. But McGregor was stripped of his Featherweight title on 26th November due to inactivity in the division. McGregor took a hiatus from MMA awaiting the birth of his first child whilst promoting an upcoming boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. In his illustrious MMA career, McGregor fought 24 professional matches of which he won 21 and lost 3.
