Andrew Lau Wai-Keung is a director, producer, and cameraman from Hong Kong. Lau began his career as a cameraman for filmmakers such as Ringo Lam, Wong Jing, and Wong Kar-wai in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1990, Lau directed a film, Against All. Yet, he didn't leave his cinematographer career. Lau has produced films of various genres, including action and crime films. Some of his movies are the Young and Dangerous, Infernal Affairs trilogy (the latter being co-directed by Alan Mak), and the best known The Revenge of the Green Dragons.
Andrew Lau was born on April 4, 1960, with five siblings. As a kid, he grew up in the New Territories of Hong Kong. His father was a construction worker. Lau has been interested in photography since he was young. After graduating from high school, Lau joined Shaw Brothers Studio.
He made his film debut in 1982 as a cameraman for Lau Kar-Leung's Legendary Weapons of China. He later worked as a photographer for Sammo Hung's martial arts film "Millionaire's express" and Ringo Lam's 1987 crime thriller "City on Fire and is known for his lighting and camera techniques. I did. In Wong Kar-wai's directorial debut, "As Tears Go By" (1988), his work earned him the first nomination for Best Cinematography at the Hong Kong Film Awards. He also directed the opening scene of Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express in 1994.
Lau continued to make films for prolific filmmaker Wong Jing, including the 1993 Category III film "Raped by an Angel" and the 1994 film "To live and die in Tsimshatsui." In 2009, Lau directed an eight-minute commercial to promote the Acura TL luxury car. The commercial is divided into three stories, with Andy Lau as the wine manor and Gwei Lunmei as the artist. The shooting was held in San Francisco, California, with an American production team.
