Srabani Sen, a notable enthusiast of the Rabindra Sangeet (songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore) and a prominent Bengali playback singer, was born on October 16th, 1953. Srabani was born in Kolkata to the couple Sumitra Sen and Sri Anil Kumar Sen. She did her schooling in Patha Bhavan, Kolkata, and she graduated in geography from Gokhale Memorial Girls College, integrated with the University of Calcutta, and pursued her master's from the same university. She started working as a journalist in a Bengali magazine named Manorama. With the help of her mother's guidance and the training provided at Geetabitan music institute, she took up music as her full-time career. She debuted in the late 1970s as a playback singer and has grown in leaps and bounds since then.
Srabani collaborated with various notable music composers and positioned herself in the industry. Her works of Rabindra sangeet gained immense popularity and recognition through her heartfelt singing. She has given her voice to movies such as Dekha, Baariwali, Rupkothara, Hemanter Pakhi, Ballygunge Court, and many more. In 2000, she won the Best female playback singer from B.F.J.A for her work Amala Dhabala Paaley from the movie Ustab which is also a part of Rabindra Sangeet. She is associated with Adhunik Bengal songs and Nazrul sangeet. She started to work as a music teacher to train the upcoming generations on Rabindra sangeet. Srabani has released several albums and performed in various shows and concerts over the last few years.
