Bijoy Sarkar was a Bengali poet, folk singer, lyricist, and composer. Bijoy was born in Bangladesh in Dumdi Village, Jessore District, on February 20, 1903. In his early days, Bijoy worked as a rent collector and often participated in stage performances and folk songs. In 1925, he joined Manohar Sarkar and Rajendranath Sarkar.Â
Bijoy Sarkar was also a Bhatiyali poet. Some of his notable songs are- Tumi Jano na Re Prio Tumi Mor Juboner Shadona, Ei Prithibi Jemon Ase Temon Thik Robe, Posha Pakhi Urey Jabe, Bansi, Chokh Gelo Pakhi Re, etc. Bijoy was awarded the Ekushey Padak Award in 2013. It is the highest civilian award for contribution in the field of arts.Â
