Amyt Datta, born on 20th October 1960, is a guitarist and producer from Kolkata. His mother came from a musically inclined family, while his father was an educator. Amyth and his cousin discovered a lap steel guitar lying about in their home, and they began playing it. Both began taking guitar lessons, primarily in the classical and semi-classical music of India. He began receiving instruction in Western music theory from the illustrious Carlton Kitto.

What he refers to as "the Trunk" was his first guitar and was created by his friend, who only demanded Rs. 300 for it. It had a very high motion and resembled a log. Later, in the early 2000s, he performed with Pinknoise, the late-night side project of the pop-rock group Skinny Alley. The Red Plant, his most recent album, was published on December 10, 2021. Amyt Datta played the guitar in the Anjan Dutta-directed Bengali rock musical film ‘Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona’ from 2011. He had an appearance in the 2019 documentary ‘If Not for You’, about Kolkata’s enduring romance with famed singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Some of his famous albums are ‘D for Brother’, ‘Escape the Roar’, ‘Pietra Dura’ and many others.
