Sulata Chowdhary was a Bengali actress and a theatre personality. Sulata made her feature debut with Debarshi Narader Sansar in 1960. As a leading actress, her first film was Shesh Paryanta in 1960, by Sudhir Mukherjee, a major success. Chowdhary was born Maya Roychowdhary in 1945 in Kolkata, British India. Her father’s name is Atal Chandra Roychowdhury. Chowdhury had a passion for dancing and music since childhood. Chowdhury learned dancing from Ramnarayan Mishra.
She played the heroine in Sesh Paryanta, directed by Sudhir Mukherjee. After that, she starred in several films in supporting roles.

offered her a role in Mahanagar. But, she could not keep it due to contract problems. Sulata acted in many hit Bengali films and Utpal Dutt’s Little Theatre Group. Some of her hit films are Dui Bhai in 1961, Shesh Paryanta in 1960, Sonar Khancha in 1973, Agnishwar in 1975, Debika in 1987, Dadar Kirti in 1980. She died in the year 1997.
