Arabinda Mukhopadhyay, an eminent Indian Bengali film director, was born on 18 June 1919 in Katihar, Bihar, Bengal Presidency, British India. His family originally dwelled in Sehakhala located in Hooghly District of present-day West Bengal. His mother's name was Mrinalini Devi and his father, Satyacharan Mukhopadhyay, was a doctor in the profession. Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay was his elder brother, also a famous Bengali writer. In his career, he directed twenty-six full-length films, one television serial, and three telefilms. Kichukkhon was marked as his first directorial film. For this film, he was nominated for the President's Award.
In 1961 his movie Abhan was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
