Dutta is an alumnus of the Film and Television of India Institute of Pune. He played a popular role in Anasua Roy Chowdhury`s 2011 movie, Hing Ting Chot. He was cast in the National Film Award-winning movie Ami Aadu, which focuses on the life of a poor Bengali village girl, Aadu, which was also released in 2011. Dutta was formerly married to
, who is also a Bengali actress and producer. In 2012, he played the epic role of ‘Pablo Patranabis’ in the movie Bhooter Bhabishyat, which was a commercial hit.
Dutta made his directorial debut with his 2021 web series Gangulys Wed Guhas, which is also an ode to Rituparna Das, who motivated him to become a director while on the sets of Jeevan Smriti, a documentary based on Rabindranath Tagore.
