Bengali Actor Chiranjeet Chakraborty

Chiranjeet Chakraborty, whose real name is Deepak Chakraborty is an Indian Actor and Politician. His works are predominantly based in the Bengali film industry. Chiranjeet gained popularity after starring in Anjan Choudhury's 1984 film, Shotru, even though he made his debut with the 1981 film, Sonay Sohaga, which was not a success. Chakraborty is also a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of Bengal and was a former MLA from the Barasat constituency of West Bengal from 2011 to 2016.

To talk about his personal life, Chiranjeet was born on 2nd November 1955 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He did his schooling at Mitra Institution, a heritage school in Kolkata. He took up B.E Architecture at Jadavpur University but did not complete it. He is married to Ratnabali Chakraborty and the couple has a daughter.

Before becoming a popular name in the film industry, he had worked at Desh magazine and as a reporter in Bengali television as a newsreader. He debuted in acting with the 1980's film ‘Sonay Sohaga’, and since then has acted in over 100 Bengali films in both lead as well as supporting actor roles.

Chakraborty shot to fame after starring in Anjan Choudhury's 1984 film ‘Shotru’, but his first major solo hit was the 1985 film, Antarale. After that, he gave a series of hits like Pratikar, Paapi, Paap Punyo, Beder Meye Josna, Amarkantak, Jibon Youban, Bhoy, Shaitan, Pennam Kolkata, Tomar Rakte Amar Shohag, Trishul, Chotushkone, etc. His career took a major turn for the best when he acted in Bariwali, released in 2000 directed by Rituparno Ghosh.

In 2011, he won the West Bengal state assembly election in Barasat constituency for All India Trinamool Congress and is still a member of the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.

Chakraborty won the Kalakar Awards-Best Actor Award for Ghar Sansar Ghar Sansaar is a family drama on K TV.
