The 47th Kerala State Film Award took place in Thiruvananthapuram, on 7 March 2017. The award function was organized by Kerala State Chalchitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Kerala. The various awards were distributed for the excellence in cinematic achievements of the Malayalam industry. The award function was started by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Govt of India, in 1969. The achievements were rewarded by the honorable minister A.K Balan.

Kammatti Paadam is a 2016 Thriller/Action movie. In the movie, Krishna, working in Mumbai, returns to his childhood friend when he calls for help. What happens next is a series of twists and turns as they are haunted by their criminal past. Because of such a fantastic storyline, Kammatti Paadam won most of the awards in the Kerala Film State Award 2017. Vinayakan was given the award for the best actor for his brilliant performance in the movie, and rightfully so.
