‘Helavanakatte Giriyamma ‘is a Kannada TV serial on Colors Kannada television channel from Monday to Friday. The time slot offered for this serial was between 7.30 to 8.00 am in the morning. The serial was based on a poetess Giriyamma, who had written many devotional songs and poems in the 18th Century.
It was a biopic on this saint who is famous in Karnataka for her devotion to God. The serial was considered to be a devotional one and people had liked watching this program in the morning. As usual, people got used to listening to devotional drama.
Hindus particularly liked this serial because of devotional songs that went in the air which was melodious and very refreshing to the ears in the morning hours. The serial was directed by Subramanya M K, and the heroine of this serial was Shreya, who became famous with this serial.
Giriyamma was one of the Haridasa in the Dharwad region of Karnataka. She was considered to be a devotee of Lord Krishna. It is believed that this devotee Giriyamma’s daily routine in the morning was performing poojas, singing slokas and or even putting rangoli and reciting slokas after worshiping Lord Venugopal with turmeric-kumkum powder on Lord’s forehead.
As Giriayam was considered a pious soul, daily devotional songs of this saint used to freshen people’s minds. The serial showed her early days of a childhood of this saintly figure. She was the first poetess of Karnataka.
