The story centers on Twinkle Taneja, who is initially in love with Yuvraj Luthra despite their mothers being bitter rivals. When Twinkle's mother Leela challenges Yuvraj's mother Anita during an argument that she will arrange Twinkle's marriage within five days, the young couple plans to elope. However, Twinkle realizes this would hurt her mother and backs out, angering Yuvraj who breaks up with her. Leela then arranges Twinkle's marriage to Kunj Sarna, son of the strict and religious Manohar Sarna. Kunj initially pretends to be a creep to drive Twinkle away because he loves another woman named Alisha, while Yuvraj secretly plans to use Twinkle for revenge against her mother. The three young people eventually strike a deal—Twinkle and Kunj will maintain their engagement for three months before separating. Despite multiple attempts by all three to stop the wedding, Twinkle and Kunj end up married, with Yuvraj continuing his vengeful schemes. Family problems intensify when Ishaan goes missing and is later found to have been kidnapped over a loan taken by Manohar, sending the Sarna family into financial crisis.

Meanwhile, Manohar's brother Surjeet falls in love with Anita and marries her despite family opposition. As Yuvraj's attempts to sabotage Twinkle and Kunj's relationship continue, the married couple gradually falls in love. The plot takes a dramatic turn when Anita, still hating Leela, attempts to murder Kunj. He is shot and presumed dead, though secretly rescued by a fisherman. A devastated and pregnant Twinkle later suffers a miscarriage and enters a fake marriage with a reformed Yuvraj who has genuinely fallen in love with her. Five years later, Kunj returns as Rocky Singh, a successful boxer, creating further emotional turmoil for Twinkle who now has feelings for both men. The three relocate to Mussoorie where Twinkle decides to continue her studies, with both men pursuing her in different ways—Kunj as a coach at her college and Yuvraj disguised as a friend named Jassi. After numerous obstacles, including false murder accusations related to a woman named Pallavi who is killed by her servants after faking a suicide attempt, Twinkle ultimately chooses Kunj. The saga concludes with Twinkle and Kunj remarrying while Yuvraj finds true love with a woman named Simple who helped prove the couple's innocence, bringing closure to their complicated love story.
