Sonali Jaffar is an Indian television personality who has written and produced many TV serials. Before her marriage, Sonali’s surname was Kotnis. She completed her schooling from Bombay Scottish School, Mahim in 1988 and joined the long list of the school’s notable alumni including
Hrithik Roshan, Rohan Gavaskar,
Uddhav Thackeray, late
Neerja Bhanot, and other numerous celebrities. Sonali pursued Masters in English Literature at Mumbai University. She also studied at DG Ruparel College, Matunga. She got her first job at Magna Publishing Group’s Stardust magazine. Eventually, Sonali became the editor of this monthly publication and went on to work there for sixteen years (1993-2009).
During her Stardust stint, Sonali joined fellow BSS alumni Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Limited as a writer. Sonali’s first assignment was Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. In 2012, she wrote the story of an episode for romantic drama Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara which aired on Star Plus. In 2013, she got many opportunities to write the scripts of various soap operas. She penned the screenplay for Bade Acche Lagte Hai, Kya Hua Tera Vaada, Chhanchhan, Beintehaa, and Aur PyaarHo Gaya. Sonali also authored the script of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
The story revolves around an independent Tamil woman, Ishita (played by the beautiful Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya) who marries Raman Bhalla for the sake of his daughter Ruhi. The serial went on to receive rave reviews from its audience. Sonali has acknowledged Ekta’s influence in the shows as she believes Ekta has always looked forward to improvising a particular scene to make it better and realistic. In 2015, Sonali and her husband Aamir decided to produce small-screen projects by establishing Full House Media Private Limited where she is currently working as its Managing Director. Their first venture was Devanshi which dealt with the subject of superstitions and taboo.
As of now, Colors TV is broadcasting. In February 2016, they presented Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, a sitcom TV series in the Hindi language. In this comedy drama, Rajni Kant is a super humanoid robot who always comes to her in-laws’ rescue whenever there is a problem. Viewers welcomed the program with open arms as BHRK got high TRPs on a regular basis. Riddhima Pandit who portrays the role of the robot won Best Debut Award at the 2016 Zee Gold Awards ceremony. In an interview, Sonali admitted that she chose to make this hilarious comedy show after watching Small Wonder. Jaffar has dedicated BHRK to every woman who has been taking care of her family while pursuing her dreams.
Earlier this year, Full House Media roped in
Aishwarya Sakhuja for another comic-caper Trideviyaan on SAB TV channel. The venture is named Trideviyaan as three female protagonists work as secret agents and protect people from the evil forces. Sonali tied the knot with AamirJaffar on 27 October 2012. They have two children: Arshaan and Nirvaan.
