Vaishnavi Mahant is a prominent TV personality, who can currently be seen as Shail Garg (Rachna's mother), in the serial Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke. She was born on 9 December 1972 in a Vaishnav family. Her father was a Hindu, and her mother was a Christian. She grew up as a Hindu but converted to Christianity in 1990. She is married to Leslie Macdonald and has a daughter whose name is Margret.

Before entering into the television industry, she did a number of leading roles in Bollywood movies. Her debut movie was horror movie ‘Veerana’ of Ramsay Brothers, which released in 1988. Though she wanted to be a scientist, she chose to be as an actress after acting in ‘Veerana’. In 1994, she did a cameo in the movie Laadla and in 1996, she played a bar dancer in the movie Bambai Ka Babu. She was also seen in Bharat Kapoor’s movie Barsat Ki Raat (1998), and played the role of Sudha in Danveer movie opposite Ronit Roy. In 1997 she did a Malayalam movie Oru Mutham Mani Mutham opposite actor Mukesh. Later on in 1998, she bagged the role of Geeta Vishwas, a news reporter, in famous serial ‘Shaktiman’ which aired on Doordarshan. This serial and her character are still memorable. After Shaktiman, she appeared in ‘Saturday Suspense’ and ‘Awaaz Ki Duniya’. She also played as an inspector named Shivangi Chauhan, in Karmyudh on Doordarshan.

She is known for playing Sharda role in TV serial Chhoti Maa - Ek Anokha Bandhan in the year 2001. She also played a surrogate mother in Zee TV’s serial Chandan Ka Palna Resham Ki Dori. In 2004, she played Ishita Khandelwal in a thriller soap K. Street Pali Hill, which aired on star plus. During 2005-07, she worked in the serial Ek Ladki Anjaani Si as lead character Anu’s mother on Zee TV and played Vasundhara in the Serial Mamta (2006-07). Then in 2007, she was seen as Sapna Singh in air force theme based serial Chhona Hai Asmaan on Star One. From 2008-10, she played Shilpa Sharma in teen drama ‘Miley Jab Hum Tum’ and Bashkar's mother in TV serial ‘’. In 2009, she appeared in the serial Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari which aired on Colors. Her other memorable role includes, Sunanda Dev Pundir in serial and Anjali in Sapno Se Bhare Naina. These days she is famous as Rachna's mother in Zee TV's popular daily serial ‘Sapne Suhane Ladakpan ke’.
