Put up some spices and a story, fry them in a dish, and make some errors with the salt; you'll end up with this narrative. A parallel script and story, both vying to reach the epitome of grandness. The script is about trying to be good, and the story is about the four kids reaching glory.
Plot The film starts with the lead, Adhityan coming to his grandparents' home for the holidays. The village was in a state of shock since various children of his age were disappearing without any clue. One day, he accidently stumbles upon a locket in his house's attic, which would make him and his friends to embark on a voyage to the mystical land of Mayapuri. It has the supreme power is hidden. The journey is filled with the difficulty faced by the children who try to bravely encounter the evil's traps. Will the children be able to retrieve the globe of power before the devil? Will they be safe? Who would have the last laugh? For answers above, fill your popcorn tub, lay back and watch the movie.
Analysis: For a film banking on its 3-D effects, this is a case of poor application of the technology. 3-D could have saved the movie which otherwise drowns due to its few potholes in the script. The perils in their voyage constitute of more monsters and natural threats, which could have benefited from the correct use of 3-D technology. The idea behind the plot is good but repetitive. It keeps you reminding that evil is lurking beyond the shadows, and one must possess faith, positivity, and courage to fight it off.
Mayapuri, as the mysterious magical land also does not live up to the mark. Apart from good dialogues in a few scenes, there is nothing to appreciate about the writing. The story could have been woven wonderfully into something that would keep up with the likes of other famous fantasy films, but alas, it has not been done so. Otherwise, the movie fares decently and will be quite popular amongst the children.
Star Performances: Kalabhavan Mani Kalabhavan Mani is a renowned Indian playback sing >> Read More... , as the quintessential evil spirit rocks the show. He is simply the epitome of everything black in this black and white world. He plays his role with a passion made by the devil. He brings his character alive on the big screen. Though the periodic costumes don't do judgment to his character, he still plays it with a fervor. The children too put up a good show as the protagonists. They act dumb at times, and sometimes you genuinely walk with them in their paths. It is a mixed bag with the adjective "decent" coming out for their labor.
What's there?
1. Acting exhibited by Kalabhavan Mani is good.
2. The wonderful landscapes of Mayapuri shown in the voyage is a delight to eyes.
What's not there?
1. The 3-D effects are not good. They could have been better.
2. The costumes makes you wonder, are they frightening or are they funny?
3. A slow narrative makes you bored at some places.
Verdict: For the reasons told above, if you're an adult you can skip this drama. And for kids, they will probably enjoy this imaginary fantasy world.
