Ram Gopal Varma Ram Gopal Varma is a famed Indian film director an >> Read More... had already directed a Kannada movie titled Killing Veerappan Click to look into! >> Read More... before he took up the venture in Hindi. One has to read the review to know whether the Hindi version manages to cope with the standards of the Kannada version.

Plot:

The story revolves around the life of sandalwood kingpin Veerappan (Sandeep Bhardwaj), who gave a cumbersome task to the special task forces before he could be cornered.  But, before Veerappan could be slained, he had taken huge toll of the lives of policemen. Also, he had killed about 900 elephants in the forest for the precious ivory.  Sachin Joshi wears the garb of a police officer to finish off the notorious criminal.

Star Performances:

Sandeep Bhardwaj has done the role of Veerappan in the movie.  He bears a startling resemblance to the forest brigand Veerappan.  Sachin Joshi plays the role of the officer who has to corner Veerappan during the climax of the movie.  Sandeep is seen hacking away humans and cutting trees. He is the only saving grace in the movie.  Sachin Joshi’s wooden expressions startle the audience in a very unpleasant manner. Usha Jadhav Usha Jadhav is an Indian film actress and she was >> Read More... has played the role of Veerappan’s wife.  The National Award winning actress has not been used to the fullest extent in the movie.   Lisa Ray An actress, model, endorser, tv-host, philanthropi >> Read More... makes an appearance as the widow of a police officer lynched by Veerappan. She too is seen scampering around in the movie with little to perform.

Analysis:

In this otherwise drab movie, one may expect some relief in the form of cinematography. The camera angles partially fulfill this requisite.  The audiences get a vision of the lush green jungles. But, the background music crosses the decibels that are tolerable to the ears.  The audience might find it hard to sit in the theaters till the movie’s last scene. Ram Gopal Varma was one among the finest directors. But now, though this taletned film-maker is not at his best, he has done an average job.. For instance, the underlying idea is to portray Veerappan, who, beyond the veil of the evil, has a purpose about his missions.    But, that alone cannot help carry forward the movie. Many other essential aspects have been left out in the movie.

What is there?

  • The performance by Sandeep Bhardwaj as Veerappan is commendable.
  • The cinematography with the camera zooming into the forest is a visual treat.

What is not there?

  • The second half fails to be impressive, and suddenly you sense that the movie is becoming uninteresting.
  • The plan by Special Task Force to eliminate Veerappan needed more detail on screen.
  • Background Music is a big minus to the movie.

Verdict:

The movie, which was expected to create a huge impact, works only in bits and pieces.
