Plot:
There were doubts on the romantic pairing of Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone, but Shoojit Sircar did not doubt the talent of Irrfan Khan in his role. Analysis:
Basically from Kolkata, Piku Banerjee and her father, Bhashkor Banerjee, reside in Delhi. Piku works as an architect in Delhi. Having lost her mom, she is the only one to take care of her father who has odd habits. Bhashkor Banerjee is suffering from chronic constipation and tracks every movement of his problem. He is a very fussy person, who contradicts everything around him. His habits are different from the others of his age. His quarrels with servants and disturbs the house. This troubles Chhobi Mashi, played by Moushumi Chatterjee, who keeps visiting them. Piku’s love for her father is very evident as she takes good care of him.
Bhashkor Banerjee is unwilling to sell their ancestral house in Kolkata and so he decides to move back to Kolkata. Bhashkor Banerjee’s decides to travel by road, because of his chronic constipation problem. Rana Chaudhary decides to accompany Piku and Bhashkor along, as all his company driver’s refuse to drive them because of Piku’s behavior. On their way to Kolkata, Rana is irritated by Bhashkor’s behavior and constipation. He realizes that Bhashkor is extremely conscious about his problems. He advises him to eat everything and to not make a fuss about things. Finally, after reaching Kolkata, Rana is asked to stay for a while. He and Piku become close during this period, and he suggests her not to sell her ancestral house. Rana leaves for Delhi advising Bhashkor not to create a fuss about small things. Bhashkor realizes that Rana was right and starts bicycling for his constipation. Surprisingly, Bhashkor’s habit of cycling every day has cleared his constipation. Piku is happy for her father and thanks Rana within herself. The very next morning, it is discovered that Bhashkor has died in his sleep. Piku returns to Delhi for his funeral and pays up the due she owes Rana. She renames her house, Bhashkor Villa, in his memory.
In total, Piku is a fun packed family film. It got nominated for Best Film Of The Year in Filmfare. Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone received awards for best actor and actress, respectively, at Filmfare.
Verdict:
During the 121 minutes, you will be thoroughly entertained by Irrfan Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. It is a must watch for the older generation as it could help them with their living style, so plan a weekend and watch Piku. It’s worth the money.
