This drama will give you a very odd feeling of familiarity. It is just like an English novel. However, it is different and you cannot get bored, that is a promise. Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas, Gemma Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Lucy Punch, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts bring this movie to you with the direction of Woody Allen.

Plot-

An old couple begins to fall apart when the woman starts to get infatuated by younger men. This woman now starts to listen to a fortune-teller who predicts that she will meet a tall and a dark stranger. The woman keeps waiting, but it turn out that the tall dark stranger that she really was talking about was none other than death. Their daughter also starts to feel for her boss, even though she is married.

Analysis-

The movie begins with a narrative like that of an English literature book, starting a very gloomy movie. There are no feelings of happiness or even curiosity, as the sadness just gets to you. The film is of the belief that there is no god, and that we have no hand over our destiny. It goes on to make you despondent due to misery of the characters and failing marriages.

Star Performances-

Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas, Gemma Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Lucy Punch, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts all do justice to their miserable and sad roles, but the dialogue delivery is applaudable. You can relate to the characters even if you feel that they’re different, and that is because of the commendable acting of the stars.

Verdict-

A different movie demands to be watched. This is one. Watch it! But do not expect to come out all refreshed. It will sadden you, but in a good way.
