Plot
The film follows Augustine Lofthouse, played by George Clooney, an academic who lives in a research facility in the Arctic. In the past, he had a romantic relationship with Jean Sullivan, played by Sophie Rundle, but their relationship did not last. Jean later told Augustine that she had their child, but Augustine chose not to be a part of his child’s life. Thirty years later, in 2049, the majority of Earth’s population has been wiped out by a catastrophic event which also contaminated the surface with ionizing radiation. Augustine is the only inhabitant in the Arctic facility because he refused to evacuate. He also suffers from a serious ailment and is slowly dying. He meets a mute young girl named Iris, played by Caoilinn Springall. He tries to warn a returning space mission to not return to Earth, but fails to do so with his facility’s antenna. The film follows Augustine and Iris as they try to survive the harsh arctic weather to warn the space mission.
Star Performance
George Clooney and Caoilinn Springall give good performances. They have good chemistry together even though one of their characters is mute and the viewers can feel how Springall’s character inspires and empowers Clooney’s character.
Analysis
The film has a good concept and cinematography. The sets for the space scenes are elaborate. The film has a good concept, but fails to execute it because of a disjointed storyline that oscillates between Alaska, space, and flashbacks.

Verdict
The film has an interesting storyline, and has good graphics and set design. The performances are also good. But the film’s plotline is boring and disjointed. The film might be a good watch for science fiction, drama, adventure, and space genre enthusiasts.
