Nightcrawler is a drama thriller film starring Jake Gyllenhaal An actor that rooted from a family that cinema is >> Read More... , Bill Paxton Bill Paxton was one of the well-known and renowned >> Read More... and Rene Russo From a fashion model to a BAFTA award winner, Rene >> Read More... in main roles. Jake Gyllenhaal takes a plunge on yet different character but not that of a Prince but a Cameraman.

Plot: The film opens up with Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) stealing something from a Los Angeles construction site. But a guard interrupts him and demands an explanation to which Louis retaliates by attacking him and stealing his watch plus leaving with the stolen material. He sells the material off to some junkyard crap dealer and requests for a job there, but unfortunately, his request is rejected. Dejected, Bloom heads back home when he witnesses a nasty car crash and applies on his car’s break for help. Then he observes that a group of freelance Cameramen have started covering the car crash.

Inspired by them he steals bicycles and trades it off for a Camcorder and a Radio scanner. The same night Bloom shoots for a carjacking but gets tangles with a fellow freelance cameraman and a heated battle commences which results in the ejection of both of them from the crime scene. Then Bloom eavesdrops on his fellow Cameraman, who speaks of selling the footage to some radio station. Later he himself goes to the radio station and confronts Nina (Rene Russo)who is impressed by his video footage and asks him to bring more.

Later Joe Loder (Bill Paxton) asks him to render his services to him so that he might make it big in filming footages and mint money out of it but Bloom simply denies it leaving Loder sulking. He hires an assistant Rick ( Riz Ahmed Bio coming soon... >> Read More... ) who is desperate for money. But things don’t go to well for Bloom as Loder successfully covers a plane crash before him. Later on Bloom sabotages Loder’s vehicle and as a result, it crashes which Bloom eventually records. Lady luck smiles upon him and makes him one of the trusted footage recorder and Cameraman and thus carves out a career out of it by crooked means.

Analysis: Wow!! This movie is brilliant on so many levels. The awesome storyline which cringingly shouts out the truth of the Modern Media and the limits they cross while trying to achieve a golden piece of cake in the form of Cash and fame. Brilliant cinematography and a spectacular screenplay make this movie darker than you could ever imagine. Main actors have played their parts well and didn't drift from their characters. Also, the reality of the media here is the true attraction of the movie which unearths some dirty secrets of the actual reality behind those camera rolls.

Star Performances: Jake Gyllenhaal is the spearhead of this movie, who is simply brilliant and intimidating to watch. The dark and shrewd role that he portrays is enough send shivers down your spine. The grey shade of his character flashes for a long time and plays with your mind as you try to come to terms with the actual reality of Media. Nina too has blended herself well with Gyllenhaal and delivers a fine performance.

What's There?

 • Brilliant storyline.

• Spectacular cinematography and screenplay.

• Nerve-wrenching performances from Gyllenhaal, Nina, and Bill.

• A dark conclusion which satisfies but also raises questions.

What's Not There?

• The movie solely relies on dark elements and no light moments are there to equalize it.

• Rick is a useless addition and comes in handy just for the conclusion.

Verdict: Nightcrawler is a must watch not just for its relation to the truth and reality of Media but also for witnessing the remarkable acts of main stars in this movie. This is one of the best from Gyllenhaal too, so yeah just go and watch this movie which ironically is footage of Media devouring the truth.
