Plot

The film starts from a little girl Chloe who is trying to sneak outside the window to take a glance at the outside view. Then suddenly her dead Henry grabs her and scolds her for looking outside the window, he was worried his daughter to be found out by some bad people. Mostly, both of them stay inside the house. Chloe is constantly engaged in some activities like drawing, studying, cleaning, and helping her dad. In the next scene we see them taking weird names and talking about a fake mother and sister to whom Henry is going to pay. Henry then asks Chloe if someday he does not return then what will she do, as if he was preparing her for something that he knows will happen. Then, while playing cards, we see blood coming from Henry’s eyes. That night we see Henry making Chloe practice breathing, where Chloe says will she be sent to the mountains if she does not practice it. Listening to which Henry got suspicious, because he has never told Chloe anything about mountains and starts questioning her. He got so suspicious and fearful of his daughter learning about the outside world that he sets fire on all the old newspapers and letters. One night Chloe was missing her mom while trying to sleep, suddenly there was a knock her door which frightened her. On opening the door there was a women sitting with open hair, seeing which Chloe shouted. What was Henry hiding? Why was he hiding Chloe from the world? Who was the woman at Chloe’s door? The story unfolds unrevealing multiple secrets.

Star Performance

The acting is ok and some of the set pieces are unnerving. Everyone’s performance is satisfactory but Lexy Kolker stands out with her exceptional and outstanding performance. Also, Emile Hirsch’s role is convincing. The production design is incredible; it has an epic sense of scale that is well-realized, and from the backgrounds to the practical effects, they are all strikingly palpable.

Analysis

This movie does not give you time to think, edge of the seat sequences, that culminates and are well edited, happening one after the other on a consecutive fast-paced effect. Ellen Ripley is an inspirational character, when it comes to transition of a person who is scarred and scared to death of her past nightmare, but is willing to go to any extremes to save a life, under any circumstances. This is easily one of the greatest movies of all time, alongside its nerve-wracking predecessor. Action, sci-fi, dark poetic visuals, characters, music, it’s all here. Altogether, The film has a rollercoaster ride of violence, this movie won't be to everyone's taste but if you like thought provoking, atmospheric sci fi based horror/thrillers it's worth checking out.

What’s There?

The plot is so interesting that it can keep the viewer engaged throughout the watch time.

What’s Not There?

The movie could have been executed more effectively

Verdict

If you like the combination of thriller, horror, and suspense, amongst other genres, then the movie may feel enjoyable to you. You may also wish to repeat the watch.
