MORE CAST & CREW

Before taking the children to the movie, parents need to understand that the movie is not as violent as its prequel that hit the screens in 2010.  The movie draws inspiration from the Lewis Carrol classic tales.  The roles have been repeated by the sequel’s actors.   Mia Wasikowska Mia Wasikowska is an actress of Australian-Polish >> Read More... and Johnny Depp An iconic award-winning-actor that doesn’t watches >> Read More... have worked in the movie, and it is not the same director who has handled this sequel.  Let us now see what the movie has in store for us as audiences.

Plot:

The plot is not very complex and is about a family torn apart.  A childhood lie is a reason for the sisters to part ways.  Mia Wasikowska is on her father’s trail for quite long. Now, she needs a change.  In the movie, she is vested with the power to return to the fantasy world that she had previously visited.  She comes across many characters that she saw before. But, one person is not there. It is none other than Johnny Depp.  Mia goes to his place, and much to her shock, she finds that his health is dilapidating.  His family had been torn apart, and he sticks on to the belief that they are still alive.  Now, the time machine comes to Mia’s aid. What happens next is the crux of the story.

Analysis

The director of this sequel is James Robin, and the prequel had been directed by Burton. There were many positive features in the prequel by Burton that hit the screens in 2010. These positive features are absent in the present venture.  However, there is a lighter vein in the movie that proves to be its asset.   Alan Rickman Who doesn’t know “Severus Snape” in Harry Potter s >> Read More... is not in the sequel, and he is conspicuous by his absence.  But, his voice in the opening scene makes up for that.
There is a problem when making sequels to any movie. That problem is in the form of plenty of clichés.  The vibrant roles that were obvious in the original movie are lacking in the present venture.  The story goes for a flashback, but the characters of Red Queen and White Queen are less interesting.

Star Performances:

Most of the actors in the story have given clichéd performances, and there is a lack of weight to the characters played by them. The performances in the original were far better.  Johnny Depp is as same as before without anything new to offer. Mia Wasikowska has put in a decent performance in the movie.  The supporting actors, whose performance stole the show in the original movie, are seen making very scant appearances.

What is there?

  • The movie is visually enhanced and proves a treat to audience’s eyes.
  • Performance by Mia Wasikowska steals the show.
  • The time traveling sequences are worth enjoying.

What is not there?

  • The essence that was obvious in the original lacks in the sequel.
  • The movie does not live up to the expectations of the classic written by Carroll.

 Verdict:

Alice Through the Looking Glass may prove a visual treat to those who do not carry Carroll’s excellent story in mind.
