Plot
The film’s protagonist is Charlie Hansen, played by Jahzir Bruno. In 1968, Charlie starts living with his grandmother Agatha, played by Octavia Spencer because his parents passed away in a car accident. Agatha gets Charlie a pet mouse to cheer him up. Charlie names the mouse Daisy. When Charlie was getting materials to buy a house for Daisy, he is approached by a witch trying to lure him, but when Agatha calls for him the witch disappears. Agatha tells Charlie that a witch does not let go of her target easily and thus, they go to a hotel to stay there for the time being. In the hotel, Charlie overhears the sinister plans of the Grand High Witch, played by Anne Hathaway, who turns Charlie into a mouse when she discovers him. The film follows Agatha, Charlie, and his friends as they try to prevent the Grand High Witch from succeeding in her evil plans.
Star Performance
Child actor Jahzir Bruno performs exceptionally well. Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer give stellar performances.
Analysis
The film does not make any major changes from the storyline of the 1990 film. Although, it does portray the protagonist and his family as African-Americans, which is a good deviation as Jahzir Bruno, Octavia Spencer, and Chris Rock perform very well.
