was also honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award.
Born to Telugu superstar Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao aka NTR Sr., who went on to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and the founder of ‘Telugu Desam Party’, Nandamuri Balakrishna was his sixth son. He made his debut as a child artist with NTR’s ‘Tatamma Kala’, which released in 1974. Balakrishna, aka ‘Balayya’ made his adult debut in ‘Sahasame Jeevitham’, which released in 1984.
Balayya is known for both for his performance off-screen as well as on-screen. In 2019, he essayed the role of his own father, NTR, in two films, ‘NTR : Kathanayakudu’ and ‘NTR : Mahanayakudu’. However, both movies turned out to be massive flops. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, Balakrishna bounced back in style with the spiritual action drama ‘Akhanda’ in 2021. The movie was a surprise hit, earning more than 150 crores worldwide.
