While Mollywood has bounced back on the commercial front, it is yet to convince the OTT giants.
According to the recent reports, most of the OTT platforms are adopting the wait and watch model for the Malayalam movies. What does that mean? Until and unless the film has not earned a respectable amount from its theatrical run, the OTT players will have an option of rejecting it.

But surprisingly, this decision is not applicable only for the Malayalam movies. Recently, many Kannada movies are struggling to find a proper OTT platform. There is a reason for that.
Post COVID, there have been multiple movies that have streamed on the OTT platforms, irrespective of origin. However, whether they have released in the theatre or not, most of the movies have been disastrous for the OTT giants. In short, the OTT platforms don’t want to be the dumpyard for garbage movies.
Only a few weeks ago, it came out that a prominent OTT platform rejected to stream ‘Ganapath’, because of its mediocrity. The film was critically as well as commercially unsuccessful. Made on a budget of more than 200 crores, the film could not even earn 20 crores overall.
