There is no iota of doubt that Indian cinema has raised the bar in the film industry, and many good films are being made every year, with a lot of them gaining international recognition. Gone are the days when Indian films were known only for their songs, dance sequences and the jatka moves. Nowadays, Indian filmmakers create movies with a vision, never compromising on quality. The blame-game that hitherto prevailed has also ceased. Nobody questions why a film was mediocre. It is simple as it is; when the movie is not good, the audience outrightly rejects it.
And now the topic of discussion is the reception of animation films in India. Animation makes us travel on a magical tour. If we consider the animation movie Mahabharat, which hit the screens in 2013, it was a big flop at the box office, despite starring big names like Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942 in A >> Read More... , Sunny Deol Sunny Deol is a film actor, director and producer. >> Read More... , Ajay Devgan Ajay Devgn is an Indian film actor. He is perhaps >> Read More... , and Vidya Balan Vidya Balan is an award winning Bollywood actress >> Read More... , who lent their voices to the animated characters. Other few animation films that have been produced in India include O My Friend Ganesha, Arjun-The Warrior Prince (that gained international recognition), Return of Hanuman (which was immensely popular), Road Side Romeo, Mighty Raju Rio, Hanuman, Kochadaiyan, Chaar Sahibzaade (which did very well), etc.
Indian animated films have done better abroad than in our home country. Though Indian filmmakers are extremely talented, India only produces a few animation films every year. It is perhaps due to the fact that the Indian market is in dearth of technology and finance. Also, talented individuals should be given proper training to become successful and enterprising animators.
A great deal of animated content that has its roots in India is targeted at children. Filmmakers have not endeavoured to make intense and meaningful animation films in India till now, unlike some of their international contemporaries. However, eminent Hollywood production ventures are being associated with Indian production ventures.
Nowadays, Indian animation studios are reducing their dependence on outsourced work from their global contemporaries. Also, the growth of animation cannot be completely written off since the tremendous recognition of international animated films in our country has paved the way for designing and producing animated content in India too. The box-office performance of these films, when compared to other films, may not be heartening but it is still encouraging.
