Padma Shri Leander Paes was born and brought up in the city of joy, Kolkata on 17th June, 1973. He started his career as a tennis player and has bagged many doubles and mixed doubles awards. He also represented the tennis team as the captain, in the Davis Cup. He has attained eight doubles and six mixed-doubles grand slam titles.
His achievements have been recognized by the highest honour in the field of sports, i.e., the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award (1996-97), followed by Arjuna Award in the year 1990. He was entitled with the prestigious Padma Shri award in the year 2001 highlighting his contributions in the field of tennis in India.
The first film debut of Leander with a lead role was in Rajdhani Express, directed by Ashok Kohli in the year 2013, which is a socio-political thriller. The film starred Leander Paes as Keshav, Jimmy Shergil, Priyanshu Chaterjee, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sayali Bhagat, Achint Kaur, Gulshan Grover, Mukesh Rishi, Puja Bose, and Shilpa Shukla. He has also confirmed to media houses on his various future projects that he will be working on in the recent years. Hollywood scripts are forging a way towards a new beginning for Leander in the entertainment world.
