He was born in 1963, in Mahbubnagar, Telangana. He was by profession a lyricist, poet and a singer. He performed in genres like folk and filmy. He got famous after his song “Palle Kanneru Peduthundo”, for ‘Kubusam’ a Telugu movie. His popularity multiplied many times after his stint as a judge on a singing reality show. Venkanna spent his childhood singing folk songs about the life of peasants and farmers. Being one of the most famous lyricists and singers from Telangana he has written and sung various songs for many Telugu movies.
The most popular one however was – Palle Kanneru Peduthundo from Kubusam. He has also composed and sung a song about Rayalseema Faction and sung it on TV 9, a famous news channel. Other works by him include a song for ‘MaisammaI PS'.
He often praises Telangana and songs about its grandeur through his songs which share a reference to the state most of the time. Some of his songs which have been published are Eku Naadam Motha, Rela Poothalu, Alasandra Vanka, Pusimapunnam. He has been awarded Kajoli Narayan Rao Award in 2016, and Kala Ratna in 2006, among others.
