Born on March 14, 1918, in Kanyakumari, Travancore, Krishnankoil Venkatachalam Mahadevan was an Indian vocalist, musician, music producer, lyricist and composer known for his works in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu cinema. He belongs to Tamil Brahmin family. He began his career as a composer with Tamil movie Avan Amaran by Nagercoil S. Nagarajan in 1950. The exceptional elements of his compositions were giving essential significance to lyrics and forming music that is impeccably suited to verses. He continually kept a base in the Carnatic music frameworks and offering autonomy to vocalists and different colleagues to openly contribute thoughts for enhancing his pieces.

The well-known Tamil motion pictures for which he composed music are Adimai Penn by K. Sankar, Vaanampadi by G. R. Nathan, Thiruvilayadal by A. P. Nagarajan, Thiruvarutselvar by A. P. Nagarajan, and much more. His one of the best music created is "Mannavan vanthaanadi" tune from the movie Thiruvarutselvar. His most famous melodies in Telugu was in the motion pictures coordinated by K. He delivered many hit tunes teaming up with amazing director K. Viswanath including the numerous national honor winning Sankaraabharanam.

Mahadevan is known as one of the few musicians to bring the virtue of classical music into the audience. His tunes gave essential significance to lyrics, a critical characteristic that made the track stand out time.

His lyricists incorporated record-breaking greats, for example, Mysore Vasudevachar, Acharya Atreya, Devulapalli Arudra, Srirangam Srinivasa Rao, CNR, Dasaradhi, Sirivennela, Kosaraju, and Veturi. He routinely coordinated maestro artists Leela, Ghantasala and P. Suseela. He was exceptionally reserved with the usage of vocalists along these lines giving various open doors in preparing singers like Vani Jayaram, S. P.
