Shamdat Sainudeen is a famed cinematographer of the south movies and has worked in several Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and one Arabic film. Shamdat Sainudeen is a self-made person. He was born in Palakkad (also known as Palghat) city in South Kerala. According to him, he wasn’t specifically good at anything in school. So intrinsically, he thought that cinema would be his rescuer and at that time he thought to become an actor. After schooling, he did his graduation from the University of Calicut and then joined a Film school in South Kerala but very soon he realized that it was a just a money minded business which gives back nothing, so he started learning about still photography himself and tried being a photographer. He also briefly worked as a wedding camera man. But it didn’t seem satisfying to him and then he opted to work as a sound assistant. In his life, he has been through numerous rejections, betrayals and failures but he kept on trying and came past all that like a winner. He was married on 26th May 2006 and now blessed with two children (an elder son and a younger daughter).
Shamdat Sainudeen initiated his cinematography career by working under the assistance of Ravi K Chandran. He considers Ravi K Chandran his Guru as well as his role model and owes everything that he is today to him. He first assisted Ravi K Chandran at the shoot of Kandukondain Kandukondain. hamdat Sainudeen's first film as an independent cinematographer was a Telugu film named Premaya Namah. The second film was in Malayalam called Krithyam. But he got the real recognition after film Rithu directed by Shyamaprasad. His noteworthy Tamil films are Avakai Biryani (2008), Kavya's Diary (2008) and Prasthanam (2010). Shamdat Sainudeen also plays a role of the Art director at the sets because unlike Bollywood this job is usually underrated in the regional film industry.
After successfully establishing his mark in the field of cinematography, Shamdat Sainudeen is now into inclined towards reading and writing. He has already completed two scripts. One of which is a light-hearted romantic story. His first directorial debut is the film ‘Streetlights.’ The shoot of the film has started this year and very soon we would be watching his very first directorial piece of work which will prove to be another benchmark in his illustrious film career
