Nirmala Periyasamy

Born in Karur, Nirmala Periyaswamy was a famous TV anchor who rose to be a politician. Her father, Dakshinamoorthy, was a member of the Marxist Communist Party. She got married to a BSNL employee named Periyasamy and gave birth to a son, Vignesh. In her early days of life, she worked as a teacher for two years. She rose to fame as a newsreader at SUN TV, where she worked for seven years. The way she spelled ‘Vanakkam,’ which means greetings got her famous. Then, she anchored a reality show, 'Solvathellam Unmai,' where people discussed issues and expressed their emotions.

In 2009, she featured in a Tamil movie, VedigunduMurugesan, in the supporting role of a judge. In an interview, Nirmala Periyasamy stated that as the show, Solvathellam Unmai didn’t match with her policies, she quit the show. She added that money is not her priority and hence she left the show, which would have defamed her. Nirmala Periyasamy received a lot of offers from many political parties. Nirmala, the former ADMK star speaker, holds a Master’s degree in English. While doing her second-year UG course, she got married. After her marriage, she completed her graduation, then did B.Ed., and then did MA. She had always wanted to work as a teacher.
