Charu Hariharan is a Tamil singer and composer in the Tollywood film industry. She was born in 1989 in Kerala, India. She completed her schooling at St. Thomas Central School, Trivandrum. She later completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Psychology at the Govt. College for Women, Trivandrum. Charu belonged to a family of musicians, and her mother and grandfather were professionals in the field. She was inspired by them and thus started learning about music at the age of ten. Charu has shared the stage with many famous singers, composers, and artists. She is the first female to have won The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) scholarship for mridangam. Charu started performing at the age of fourteen at concerts.
Charu received a scholarship to participate in a world music camp in Sweden called Ethno Sweden. She was also invited to participate in the Youth Music Exchange Project in Sweden in 2012, where she was mentored by Ale Molder. Charu was a member of the Varldens Band, a band that had fourteen members from six different countries. The band’s diversity was liked by listeners. The band was nominated twice for the World and Folk Music Awards in Sweden.
