Pammal Sambandha Mudalair is a Tamil Playwriter. He was widely regarded as the Founding Father of Modern Tamil Theatre. Apart from being a playwriter, he was also a director, producer and Actor. He was born on 9th February 1875 in Pammal, Tamil Nadu, to Vijararangam Mudalair and Manikka Velammal. He also has a brother and sister. He completed his education at Pachiyappa’s College. He developed interest in drama and theatrics as a young child. He would write his own plays and he often staged them at home, along with his brother and sister, for audiences including his family and Neighbours. He found the theatre company Suguna Vilasa Sabha at the age of 19. According to Santhanam and Scharada Bail, he wrote over 96 plays. He was credited for successfully introducing Talkies to Tamil Cinema in 1931.
