Vaishnavi was a beautiful Tamil actress in the television and movie industry who died on 17th April, 2006 at the age of 20. She started her career very early at a young age of 15. She got her break in 2002 in Suresh Krishna’s movie Baba starring Rajinikanth as Baba and Manisha Koirala Manisha Koirala, is a Bollywood actress of Nepales >> Read More... as Chamudeswari. Vaishnavi played one of the Chamudeswari’s sisters. In 2003, she acted in Kadhal Sadugudu as the male lead’s sister again. In 2003, she was part of the star cast of the Tamil slasher film Whistle, loosely based on the iconic Hollywood movie Urban Legend. She started her career in Television in 2003, when she appeared as Anjali in the hit Tamil TV serial Anni written by K Balachander that aired on Jaya TV.

She then went on to work in TV shows like Muhurtham, Malargal, and Manaivi; aired on Sun TV between 2004 and 2006. She also became the TV anchor for the show Kondattam aired on Sun TV. While working on the sets of Manaivi in the role of Neelavani, she met her co-actor Dev Anand Dev Anand would be nostalgically remembered by fil >> Read More... and became close to him.

She played Dev Anand’s second wife in the show, and they allegedly became romantically involved as the shooting progressed. Dev Anand, however, was already married in real life and this allegedly put a strain on their relationship. On 17th April 2006, she hanged herself in her Anna Nagar residence while her family was out to celebrate her grandfather’s birthday. She had not left a suicide note or clues for the reason for her suicide.

As Police investigations ensued, the Anna Nagar police arrested Dev Anand for questioning on 19th April under Section 306 (Abetting the Commission of suicide) after Vaishnavi’s family members named him as the reason for their daughter’s suicide, and after he had allegedly assaulted her only a few hours before she hanged herself. On November 2011, the court sentenced him to a five-year rigorous imprisonment under the charges.

Vaishnavi was a talented young girl with a lot of dreams and ambitions. She was respected by her colleagues, and loved by her fans. She had many opportunities in store for her as her Manaivi director CJ Bhaskar was planning to cast her in his next project. There is a negative side to stepping in the entertainment industry at such an impressionable age. She was unable to deal with the many complications and burdens that glamour, and fame carry along with them. Her story now remains caged in this one final act which she chose for herself over living.
