Sundaram Balachander, known as S. Balachander, was an Indian musician, director, screenwriter, and composer. He was born on January 18, 1927, in Madras, British India. Later in 1948, he directed a film EnKanavar in which he starred in the lead role. The movie revolved around the male lead, his experiences as a son, a husband, and his desires as a human being.
In 1954, he directed a classic Tamil film-noir, AndhaNaal, which was a murder mystery set in the World War II World War II is a Malayalam information TV show on >> Read More... era. It was the first-ever film noir of the Tamil film industry. He was a fine director who appreciated detective fiction and a famous musicologist. He believed that God sent him on the earth to present their music and the music of the Vedas through instruments. He was truly grateful for his talent and that he got to share it with the world. He played numerous other instruments like tabla, harmonium, mridangam, shehnai, and sitar.
He was an outstanding musician as he played so many instruments to perfection without having any permanent guru. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit for the Best Feature film in Tamil and Telugu, the Sangeetha Kalasikhamani by Then Indian Fine Arts Society in 1982, and the Padma Bhushan in 1982. His death on 13 April 1990, was a huge loss to the Indian Music Society.
