Roopa Mahadevan

Roopa Mahadevan was born in San Jose, California, on March 5, 1983. She received formative training from Smt Asha Ramesh, a disciple of the late Sangeetha Kalanidhi, D.K Jayaraman, and Sri Nanganallur Ramanathan.

Roopa Mahadevan is a highly skilled vocalist who showcases her talents in the rich tradition of Indian classical music while pushing the boundaries of crossover music genres. Her impressive resume includes performances at esteemed venues like the Music Academy in Chennai, contemporary performing arts centers in New York City, and various American cultural institutions. Roopa's vocal style is celebrated for its emotive qualities and her willingness to collaborate with other artists.

In 2007, Roopa was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship by the United States State Department, which enabled her to pursue further training under the tutelage of Smt: Suguna Varadachari, a senior vidushi and renowned instructor of the Musiri Subramania Iyer School in Chennai, India. Since then, Roopa has continued to hone her craft and has received high praise from the Carnatic music world and the media for her performances at the main sabhas during the Chennai December session, as well as her full-length performances in India and North America. Her exceptional talent and dedication to her craft have made her a respected figure in the world of Indian classical music, and her contributions to the field are truly invaluable.
