Varkala Sathyan

Varkala Sathyan is an actor in Malayalam Movie and Television Industry. He was born as Narayanan Sathyaseelan to P. Narayanan and Kamalakshi. He started his career in All India Radio in Kozhikode, in the year1965 and worked there for five years where he recorded important speeches of famous and leading Indian politicians such as V. K. Krishna Menon, and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After this he shifted to Radio Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1970 where he worked as a senior engineer for the next 43 years till his retirement in 2004. His father was the master of the stage drama and influenced his son to participate in stage shows. He acted in many stage shows with famous stage artistes like Vilasini, Kunjava, Nellicode Bhaskaran, Balan K. Nair, and many more. He wrote and directed five full stage plays inspired by famous Malayalam writers like Thikkodian, Vinayan, N. N. Kakkad, and M/S Uroob. He worked as an actor in over twelve Malayalam films in minor character roles. In 1988, he worked in the movie Thanthram directed by Joshi. In 1989, he portrayed the role of a Brahmin in Dennis Joseph directed film Adharvam. He worked in Padmarajan’s movie Innale, and I.V Sasi's directed movie Varthamana Kaalam in 1990. He worked as a pepper seller in Suresh Unnithan’s Aardram in 1992. He acted in Lenin Rajendran’s Daivathinte Vikruthikal and was also associated with the production team. In 1994, he again worked in Suresh Unnithan's directed film Bhagyavaan as a politician in which he was also a production partner. In 2000, he acted in Vinayan's directed movie Dhada Sahib portraying a police officer. The nature of his acting roles was similar in the Malayalam Television shows like Sthree, Bhagya Nakshatram, Amma, and Air Mail. He also worked in two Arabic TV Shows "Ashafaan” in 1977 and “Thawal Aamer Thamaasa” in 1978 as an Indian doctor and Hotel Manager respectively. He finished his high school from Sivagiri High School in Varkala in 1961 and went to Trivandrum for further technical study. He passed out of City & Guilds of London Institute in the United Kingdom with a Degree in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications. He briefly worked as a Technical Consultant to Asianet from 2005 to 2007. He was also associated with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, UAE as a senior engineer and was in-charge of the Central Adhan System of Abu Dhabi. He currently works as a Technical Consultant in Broadcasting in Gulf News Radio in Dubai, UAE. His experience and involvement in different kind of projects, he has undertaken in his career makes him a unique and intriguing personality.
