Ashraf Gurukkal has been a name associated with the action, stunt choreography in Malayalam cine industry for the past three decades. He has shouldered many responsibilities including stunt man, production controller, and actor in multiple roles. Director Kamal introduced him to films through 'Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal' wherein he became a trained Kalari.
He has carried out fight stunts in around 23 movies including Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi films. Roughly six years ago he was diagnosed with cancer while directing a fight scene for a television serial. A biopsy detected a second stage cancer for which he got treated and returned to fight direction once again.
