Chitra Iyer

Chitra Iyer is a singer and actress who works predominately in the Malayalam film and television industry. Born in Kochi, Kerala; she is the daughter of Mr. Raja Desai and Mrs. Rohini Iyer. Chitra married former Airforce pilot Vinod Srivarman on 12th July 1989 and has two daughters named Aditi and Anjali.

Chitra discovered her interest and passion for music at a very early age and began learning Carnatic music. Later she received training from Sri Mukund Kshirsagar of Gwalior Gharana in Hindustani music.

She recorded her first album for music director Chandru in the year 1984. The album consisted of Mookambika bhajans. She composed the songs for the first time in 1993 with her another devotional album on Udipi Krishna. Chitra started her career as a playback singer in 1997. Next, along with Balabhaskar, she composed various albums which turned to be successful. She had always wished to sing and work along with AR Rahman which came true in 2000 when A R Rahman himself invited her with a cassette of her songs and later hired her to work with him on the song Athini Sithni of Thenali movie.

Side by side she also worked with other composers like Vidyasagar, Karthik Raja The famous south Indian film composer, singer, mus >> Read More... , etc. It was this time when she started performing on stage and conducting live shows for various Kairali and Malayalam shows. She has also done various live shows in foreign countries. Apart from singing Chitra has also been an anchor and hosted music programs in Malayalam. She has been invited as a judge on various reality shows. She has sung songs not only for south Indian industry but also in Bollywood.

The popular songs she has sung include dhuan dhuan sa, colour colour, athanvaruvaga, thozha thozha, ale ale, asathura and anarkali. Besides these Chitra can also be seen in various music videos. She has worked as an actress on the small screen as well as in various movies. The TV show she has worked in includes Kungumapoovu aired on Asia net which made her various famous. She has worked as a supporting actress in Malayalam films like Makaramanju and Rathri Mazha This is Malayalam opera aired on Flowers Tv. The f >> Read More... which released in 2007. Chitra gained recognition in her career, especially while working with Balabhaskar in the early 2000.

Later she was recognized when she started hosting different Malayalam shows. Besides her career in singing and the cinema world, she was also the trustee and founder of society for elephant welfare in Kerala. She has also promoted farming which was actually a project launched by her mother. In the year 2013, she launched Dark Horse Productions which is a software company.
