Mankombu Gopalakrishnan was born in 1947 in Alappuzha which is a city in Kerala, India. He is an Indian film script writer and lyricist in Malayalam Cinema. He has a record of writing about 200 Malayalam films and around 700 songs for Malayalam movies. In around 10 Malayalam movies, Mankombu Gopalakrishnan has worked as a dialogue writer, story writer, and screenplay.

He worked as a dialogue writer in many Malayalam movies. Some of these are Swarnna Malsyam which was released in the year 1975, Swarnnavigraham in 1974, Ankachamayam in 1982, Swarnnavigraham in 1974, Kuttavum Shikshayum in 1976, Sapadham in 1984, to name a few. The most popular film in which he worked as a dialogue writer is Baahubali: The Beginning which was released in the year 2015. The sequel of this movie is going to release in 2017 with the name of the movie as “Baahubali: The Conclusion.”

He also worked as a story writer and done screenplay in many films like “Ival Ee Vazhi Ithu vare” which was released in the year1980, Ee Mazha Thenmazha in 2000, Njaan Anaswaran in 2013, etc. The man who is not much recognized in the Malayalam Industry was honored in a book launch function. He has worked in the Industry for over four decades. He has visualized many songs on the screen. There is a book named “Ilam Manjin Kulirumay” which was introduced by Hariharan (a director) at Tagore Centenary Hall; it has a collection of songs Mankombu. Mankombu Gopalakrishnan has written songs for over 40 films directed by Hariharan and has always given perfect lyrics for him.

Once, M.T Vasudevan Nair had called Mankombu in a meeting of literary camp as a young, aspiring author for new writers. They used to exchange letters at that time, and he thought that Mankombu would focus on Literature, but Mankombu went for cinema. M.T Vasudevan is of the thinking that songs are not inferior to poetry. According to him, good songs can be written by good poets only. M.P Abdussamad Samadani who is an MLA has praised Mankombu for his contribution to the Malayalam Cinema, in the function. Abdussamad Samadani said that one can always enjoy the songs written by Mankombu, especially now, as the new songs don’t have that quality which was there in the old songs.

Many other eminent personalities like P.V. Gangadharan who is a producer, N.K. Bhupesh Babu who is an industrialist, P.K. Abdu Rabb who is an Education Minister, V.M. Kutty, etc. have praised Mankombu Gopalakrishnan for his work in Malayalam Cinema. Jayaraj Warrier has performed a parody show for him, and a music show was also held in which all the songs of Mankombu Gopalakrishnan was played.
