Thampi Kannanthanam is also known as Thampi, was born on 11th December 1953 in Kanjirapally, Kottayam, India with the zodiac sign as Capricorn. Thampi is the sixth child of his father Baby Kannanthanam and mother Thankamma. Thampi is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter as well as actor. He preferably works in the Malayalam industry.

Thampi did his schooling from MT Seminary School in Kerala. He completed his graduation from ST. Domenic College in Kanjirapally, Kerala. With the position of an assistant director, Thampi started his career. He worked as an assistant director in his first eight movies starting right from 1979 to 1982.

His debut was in “Itha Oru Theeram,” where he was an actor in 1979. Later a year gap, he continuously got the chance to play as an actor in his next four movies, which were Kodimudikal, Attimari, Madrasile Mon and post mortem. He then became the director of “Thavalam” and “Kaathirunna Divasam” in the year 1983.

Then after two years, he got another directorial film which was Aa Neeram Alppa Dooram in the year 1985. In the same year, he has featured in Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar as the director of the movie. Then in the next three years consecutively, he got movies as director and producer in “Janmandharam,” “Puthiya Karukkal,” and “Indrajaalam” in the years 1988, 1989 and 1990 respectively.

It was Thampi's first hattrick in his career in the film industry. In the year 1991, he got two movies Kudar Katha and Kadalora kattu. Likewise, he got eight more films in the 19s with roles as director, producer, screenwriter, actor, etc. Then in 2000, he got his debut movie Ori Cheru Punchiri in which he was an actor as well as the director. In 2001, he got to direct two movies “Onnaman” and his first-ever Bollywood movie “Hadh: Life on the Edge of Death.” Then he got his last TWO debuts in the year 2004, namely Sasneham Sumithra and Freedom. Altogether, Thampi directed almost 16 films in his life. He was married to Kunjumol, and this happy couple has been blessed with two daughters named Aishwarya and Angel.

As his career was going very smoothly and he became successful as well, but somewhere his health wasn't cooperating with him that much. In 2018, he has been admitted to a private hospital in Kochi. Later as time went, his health condition worsened too. It led to his death on the 2nd of October 2018. He died at the age of 64 years. On the day when our Father of the nation (Mahatma Gandhi) took birth, this pure soul left all of us in the utmost sorrow and sadness.
