Rajashree Warrier is a Bharatanatyam dancer, born on 31st January 1974 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Rajashree is not only a classical dancer but also a vocalist, writer, media person and educator. Guru V Mythili and Guru Jayanthi Subramaniam are her Bharatanatyam tutors and she learned the Carnatic music from Mullamudu Harihara Iyer, Parassala Ponnammal, Perumbavoor G Raveendranath and B Sasikumar. She started her career in 1990. Besides holding a Ph.D. in Music, Rajashree Warrier is a PG Diploma holder in Journalism. She researched the Tana Varnas and Pada Varnas and got her Ph.D. Rajashree Warrier conducts stage shows and concerts in India and abroad. She founded UTTARIKA, Centre for Performing Arts and is the director of the institution. The institution teaches Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music.
Besides being a dancer and educator, she hosted a TV show, “ Suprabatham If you are longing for serenity or pursuing mental >> Read More... ” on Asianet. The show is much popular and she hosted it for 4 years, continually. Besides hosting this show, she had also made shows for DD Kerala and Amrita TV. She had also written a couple of books, including Narthaki, published in 2013 by DC Books and Nruthakala in 2011, published by Chintha Publications. Since 2016, Rajashree continues to be the Executive Member in Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy. Rajashree married Anil S Nair in 2016 and she has a daughter, Lavanya.
Some of her dance compositions are Lankalaksmi, an Adaptation of a Malayalam play penned by C N Sreekantan Nair. She choreographed, gave the vocals and presented Neela Varnam in Bharatanatyam. Her program Ashtaiswaryam explains the eight incredible qualities achieved with meditation and it also deals with the life of Lord Krishna. Her program Ashtapatni is based on Bhagavatam Dasama Scandam Uttarardham. She also programmed Swathi Smrithi, which deals with Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma and his compositions. She had also composed Bharatanatyam based on the legendary Balamuralikrishna’s compositions. She had also made a theatrical venture related to the life history of Mira Bai.
In 2007, she received the Navarasam Sangeeta Sabha Award for Bharatanatyam. In 2009, she was honored with the ‘Natana Shiromani’ Award by Chilanka Dance Academy. In 2010, she received the Sai Natya Ratna award by Satya Sai Seva Organisation. In 2012, she won the Mahila Tilak award for her service to the Indian Classical Dance. The Government of Kerala honored her with this award in 2012. Vayalar Samskaarika Samithi conferred her with Kalaratna Puraskar. In 2013, she was awarded VS Sharma Endowment Award for her contributions to Bharatanatyam. Kerala Kalamandalam honored her with this award. In the same year, she was honored with the title, Kalasree and received an honor from Kerala Sangita Nataka Academy. In 2014, she was awarded Dev Dasi National Award for Bharatanatyam and Dev Dasi Nruthya Mandira, Bhuvaneswar, had given it.
