Son of an extraordinarily talented actor Aboobacker, Niyas Backer, is a famous South Indian comedian actor. Niyas followed his father’s footsteps and became a renowned comedian of the south Indian film industry. Niyas started his career as a mimicry artist and performed various stage shows with his younger brother Navas Backer, who is also a well-known stage actor. Niyas Backer is one hell of a comedian who lives in the Aluva district of the Cochin city.
Niyas is inspired by some of the great mimicry artists of his times such as Sainuddin and Jayaram. Niyas started doing stage shows when his brother started working with Kalabhavan. Niyas did theatre shows for two years and learnt a lot from the Mala Aravindan’s Valluvanadan Theatres. After that Niyas and Navas both started working together under the Cochin Arts banner and worked with some of the leading mimicry artists of their time. These mimicry roles turned out to be a huge turning point in his life. His success as a mimicry artist took him to the 70mm screen. He was offered small roles in films.
Niyas first appeared on the big screen in the movie Venagalam. Later, he was also offered brief roles in the movies Chamayam and Kudammattam. But the movie that brought Niyas into the limelight was Ishtam.

Niyas starred in a television series named Marimayum, which turned out to be the most successful role in his life. The show has been on the air for the last three years now. Niyas also received the State television award for the Best Comedian 2013 for his work in ‘Marimayamm’. Niyas believes in the fact that comedy should always be natural, and a comedian should not go overboard.
