Born in Tamil Nadu’s Ooty, Chandru Selvaraj is an Indian cinematographer and an assistant cinematographer who predominantly works in the South Indian film industry. Currently settled in Chennai, Selvaraj completed his schooling at Senthil Matric Higher Secondary School and later graduated from the College of Engineering, Guindy. In 2015, Selvaraj started working as an assistant cinematographer in the Indian film industry. Later, he became the assistant cinematographer in several films like Vanamagan and Petta, among others. He assisted national award-winning cinematographer Tirru in several movies.

Selvaraj's success was lauded by the lead actress of Kayattom, Manju Warrier. She also remarked on how Selvaraj had demonstrated that skill is more significant than the medium of the shoot. Selvaraj was also the DOP for movies like Mahaveeryar and Vazhakku. Raan, a surrealistic thriller, was Selvaraj’s first short film and his first directorial venture.
