Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, a male singer born on July 25, 1908, at Thanjavur District, Madras Residency. He was well known for his Carnatic music, also called the Indian Classical Music. He passed away on October 31, 2003, at the age of 95. He till the age of 4, lived with his maternal uncle, who was a master in violin but moved back with his parents when his uncle passed away.
He started learning music from his cousin when he was 8-years-old, which was followed by training under Thiruvadaimarrthur Sakharama Rao, a Gottuvadyam exponent which became a turning point in his life. He performed his first musical recital in 1926, at Kumbakonam. He gave his second life turning performance in the year 1927, in Madras.
He is still well known for his soulful music, which was highly creative and yet orthodox. He also liked to play instruments. He gave public concerts till the age of 90. He was famous for the meticulous planning that he put in every performance. His singing style had been followed all over. He has two sons and two daughters.
